The Soviet Union will become a global leader in industrial and agricultural production.

Joseph Stalin : General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union
Stalin's first five year plan, adopted in 1929, predicted a massive increase in industrial and agricultural production. This was a justification for the seizure of peasants' land and the relocation of thousands of Russian families to labor camps in Siberia. By 1935, 90% of Russian's agricultural land was farmed collectively, but instead of a increase in production, there was a substantial decrease. The regime also began a period of political persecution against civilians that would eventually murder millions.
