In 1950, Popular Mechanics printed an article forecasting what everyday life would be like in AD 2000, including such luxuries as commercial mass air transit. "Passenger travel by rail is a mere trickle (in 2000). Even commuters go to a city, a hundred miles away, in huge aerial busses that hold 200 passengers".
Airbus, the European commercial airline manufacturer which produces approximately half of airplanes today, was founded in 1970.
