'The Iron Heel', one of the earliest modern dystopian novels, predicted that during the period from 1912 to 1932, Japan would conquer East Asia, India gain independence and Europe become a socialist state. Canada, Mexico and Cuba would form oligarchies which align with the US. In the US, the Socialist party would become a mass party causing a counter-reaction from the capitalist party which would abandon democracy and introduce a repressive regime.
The Iron Heel, considered to be one of the earliest modern dystopian novels, demonstrated London's prophetic sense for how Fascism regimes arise. It supposedly influenced George Orwell's writing of 1984.
