Russia hasn’t had had a double-digit gold medal tally at the Winter Games since 1994, when it won eleven gold and 23 total. It had nine gold in 1998, five in 2002, eight in 2006 and just three in Canada four years ago. If Russia gets 15 gold in Sochi, it will be one less than it has won in the last three Olympics combined. Forty total medals will be more than it got in the last two Olympics combined.
