In 1932 the city of Minsk, Belarus, launched a competition for the State Opera Theatre. This year the winning project was an example of constructivist style, but two years later the city launched a new competition because the Soviet policy switched from encouraging constructivism to promoting neoclassical style. A neoclassical project won the competition in 1934.
