Genetic tests for alcoholism may be developed. Recent brain-wave research on children identified as at-risk for alcoholism is a step toward the identification of genes that confer a vulnerability to alcohol. Eventually, tests for these genes could be constructed and medications developed for children to reduce their inclination to drink alcohol as they get older
