Every family will have their own apartment by 2000

Mikhail Gorbachev : politician
In 1985, the General Secretary of the Communist Party Mikhail Gorbachev delivered a speech and declared that in 15 years every family in the Soviet Union would own a separate apartment.
Ironically, he almost literally repeated Nikita Khrushchev’s statement, only 20 years earlier, who promised that everyone would have an apartment by 1980. Both predictions did not come true.
