The project of transfer a part of flow of Siberian rivers will solve a problem of water supply in Kazahstan, Uzbekistan and potentially Turkmenia. It will allow to restore drying out Aral sea and to open navigation by cannals.
The project to turn Siberian rivers goes back to the 1830s when tsarist surveyor Alexander Shrenk proposed it when the big canal engineering projects were conceived (i.e. the Suez and Panama canals).
