Professor Kelly Chibale : scientist
Collectively, malaria, TB & HIV/AIDS cause more than five million deaths per year -- nearly the entire population of the state of Washington -- and represent one of the world's major public health challenges as we move into the second decade of the 21st century. led by Professor Kelly Chibale, research collaboration involving the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV), based in Switzerland, and the Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3-D) at the University of Cape Town, South Africa was able to identify a strand molecule showing potent activity against malaria. Human clinical trials are now set to begin in late 2013. If successful, a pill derived from this compound may become available by 2020.
