Levinson points to several indicators in the Levada Centers annual opinion surveys from 2009 to 2012 which reveal a growing dissatisfaction with the leadership of the country. The public display of this dissent only accounts for a small portion of the population, while the "latent protest" (i.e. the sentiments of dissatisfaction) demonstrated by the results of the population survey suggests a greater intellectual shift that will outlive the rise and fall of the protest movement, and ultimate lead to political change in Russia.
