Pussy Riot : Activists
Pussy Riot's now infamous act of protest against Putin's re-election took place on February 21, 2012 when five women performed a 'punk prayer' in Moscow's Christ the Savior Cathedral, wearing colorful balaclavas and yelling anti-Putin lyrics. Though they were escorted out of the Church within minutes, the music video of the event went viral, shaking Putin's public reputation. Three days later, in an act of retaliation, a warrant was issued for three of the girls' arrest. Charged with 'hooliganism' and accused of “insulting the entire Christian world", they were sentenced to 2 years in a labor prison.
